Questions about tea

How long you can let your tea brew depends on the type of tea. This is always stated on the packaging. Below is an overview with advice:

  • Black tea: 3–5 minutes
  • Green tea: 2–3 minutes
  • White tea: 2–3 minutes
  • Oolong: 3–4 minutes
  • Herbal and fruit tea: 5–7 minutes

Not all teas are suitable for brewing at 100 °C. Below you will find an overview of the different temperatures. We recommend always bringing the water to the boil at 100 °C first, then allowing it to cool gradually to the appropriate temperature:

  • Black tea: 100 °C
  • Green tea: 85 °C
  • White tea: 85 °C
  • Oolong: 100 °C
  • Herbal and fruit infusions: 100 °C

Tea fits well within a healthy lifestyle. It naturally contains antioxidants and has no calories, provided you do not add sugar. Tea is included in the Eatwell Guide.

The tea is carefully selected, blended, and packaged in Sri Lanka.

Caffeine naturally occurs in tea made from the tea plant Camellia sinensis, such as black, green, white tea and oolong. This caffeine is also referred to as theine. Herbal teas, such as chamomile or mint, are not true teas and therefore do not contain caffeine.

The ingredients may vary per product. The list of ingredients is stated on the back of each tea box. You can also find this information in the online webshop on the product page.

Bradley’s tea is made with natural ingredients and contains only natural flavourings. This means that the flavourings are derived from natural sources such as fruit or spices.

No, no sugar or sweeteners are added to the teas.

Liquorice contains glycyrrhizin, a substance which can raise blood pressure when consumed in excess. People with high blood pressure, pregnant women, and young children are advised to drink tea containing liquorice in moderation.

The following Bradley’s tea ranges are Fairtrade certified: Piraminis, Pyramids, Organic, and Favourites. You can recognise this by the official green and blue Fairtrade logo on the packaging. For these products, we work with tea producers who value fair trade and good working conditions. In this way, every cup of tea contributes to a better tea supply chain.

At Bradley’s, we have two ranges that are organically certified: Organic tea bags and Organic loose-leaf tea. These products can be recognised by the green organic certification mark on the packaging. Strict requirements apply to this certification, meaning no chemicals or pesticides are used during cultivation.

Bradley’s teas do not contain any known allergens such as gluten, milk, or nuts.

Yes, all Bradley’s teas are plant-based and therefore suitable for vegans.

Each package includes a best before date. In general, tea will keep for at least 2 to 3 years, provided it is stored in a cool and dark place.

The Netherlands Nutrition Centre (Voedingscentrum) advises the following:

“If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, you may have a few cups of coffee and tea per day. Tea, herbal tea and coffee without sugar are included in the Eatwell Guide. These drinks are healthy to consume, even if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.”

“You can safely drink a few cups of herbal tea per day. These types of tea do not contain caffeine, as they are not made from the tea plant but from herbs, fruit, spices or combinations thereof.”

The amount of caffeine in blends that do contain tea—and therefore caffeine—varies, partly depending on how long you leave the tea bag to brew in the cup of hot water. As a guideline, a 125 ml cup of tea contains around 20 to 30 milligrams of caffeine. The Nutrition Centre recommends that during pregnancy or while breastfeeding, you can consume around 200 milligrams of caffeine per day.

Liquorice tea and Sterrenmix tea are generally tea-free and therefore caffeine-free. However, these blends are not recommended for people with high blood pressure due to the liquorice they contain.

You can therefore safely drink herbal teas that do not contain liquorice.

We do not use any materials known to contain microplastics or PFAS. We consciously choose high-quality ingredients without unnecessary additives and use safe, food-grade materials. Our tea bags are also free from nylon and other plastic components. All materials used comply with current food safety legislation and regulations.

Our Bradley’s pyramid tea bags are made from PLA (polylactic acid), a bioplastic derived from renewable resources such as maize starch. These bags are free from nylon and other fossil-based plastics. Other tea bags, such as Bradley’s Fairtrade Organic and Bradley’s Favourites, are made from abaca (a natural fibre obtained from the banana plant) and cellulose. Our tea bags are compostable and can be disposed of with organic waste in the Netherlands. As waste processing may vary by municipality, we recommend following local waste disposal guidelines.
